LIBERTY IN THE LIBERTIES and TOMORROW'S CHIP PAPERS

Liberty in the Liberties
is a zine that tells the story of one Emmet Ó Gadhar Rua, a socialist icon who was written out of history because he is a fox.

Some time ago I was walking down Thomas Street when I heard a snuffling sound coming from the doorway of Vincenzo's. As I got closer I saw a fox gnawing on a piece of battered cod. The fox was almost completely grey and seemed infirm. I can't remember how we got talking but, in the way that seems to happen in Dublin, he ended up telling me his life story. He turned out to be a prominent trade-unionist and socialist who had lived in the area since the 1920s. He had attempted to enlist in the International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War but was shooed away from meetings. You've never heard of him due to anti-fox bias and revisionism.

Following a reappraisal of Ó Gadhar Rua's cultural significance in the wake of Liberty in the Liberties, we were commissioned to contribute a treatise on the value of print media to Poetry Ireland's Trumpet magazine. Tomorrow's Chip Papers appeared in issue 11, an editorial on ephemera curated by Tapasya Narang.

Önd, a zine

Picture
I wrote Önd, (Icelandic for duck), while on a residency in a small fishing village in northern Iceland. It records my fascination with the local sea ducks and what they taught me about weathering storms.

Buy the handmade zine.

Managers, a zine

Made for the 2016-2017 British Premier League season with a host of characters including Arsène Wenger, José Mourinho and Louis Van Gaal. Also includes a fold out poster of all the managers on the back.  This was a limited edition run of 50 zines and is now out of print, but a copy is conserved for posterity in the Forgotten Zine Archive.

Layout by Beibhinn Delaney, co-produced by Saul Delmore Philbin Bowman.
