LIBERTY IN THE LIBERTIES, A ZINELiberty in the Liberties tells the story of one Emmet Ó Gadhar Rua, a socialist icon who was written out of history because he is a fox.
Some time ago I was walking down Thomas Street when I heard a snuffling sound coming from the doorway of Vincenzo's. As I got closer I saw a fox gnawing on a piece of battered cod. The fox was almost completely grey and seemed infirm. I can't remember how we got talking but in the way that seems to happen in Dublin he ended up telling me his life story. He turned out to be a prominent trade-unionist and socialist who had lived in the area since the 1920s. You've never heard of him due to anti-fox bias and revisionism. Right the wrongs of history by buying his story here. Emmet Ó Gadhar Rua also makes a guest appearance in issue 11 of Poetry Ireland's Trumpet magazine, discussing the value of physical media. You can buy that here and in good bookshops. |
